‘Chet Baker’ is the latest release from Esther Rose. A laid-back track that takes clear influence from country music and turns it into an effortlessly catchy pop song filled with hooks and a warm lead vocal. It also leans into a new recording style for the artist, with overdubs and multi-tracking allowing her to expand her sound beyond the "in the room" approach she utilised previously. “Someone sent me a DM, asking ‘do you remember me.’ I was transported into a decade-old memory; a weird weekend with a crew of dangerous college preps, a car crash,” she explains. “What came out is this short study of my townie life in Ann Arbor. As I was writing this song, it occurred to me how lucky I was to have survived that time of wilful recklessness.” This track is taken from Esther Rose’s upcoming album, Safe To Run, which is being released on April 21st, 2023. -Dan Peeke.
